The HTC One X alternatives...

The HTC One X alternatives

Recently I wrote an article on the soon-to-be-released HTC One X, within this article I momentarily brushed over HTC's other two handsets they announced at MWC which were the HTC One S and the HTC One V. Now when the One X comes to market, there's no doubt it's going to be an expensive phone as well.. you give a phone more cores than my brother's laptop and you are going to ask a lot of money for it. So what I wanted to do with this article was talk about the One S and the One V as they are the more affordable options if you want a phone with HTC's beautiful new HTC Sense 4.0 skin on top of Ice Cream Sandwich.
Let's begin with the beautiful HTC One S, now this phone is the phone that the majority of US users are looking forward to as in the US, the One X won't have the Quad-core processor and will be stuck with the same dual-core processor as the One S which is the reason that the majority of the users in the UK will be buying the phone. As a result, the One X and One S will have the same processor, but I can guarantee the One S will come in cheaper due to the fact that the One X is HTC's flagship phone this year. However, if you're a UK user and are planning on getting the HTC One S, here's why it would be a brilliant purchase: it is encased by the aluminium casing that we're used to seeing on previous HTC devices as opposed to the One X's Poly-Carbonate casing, now some are saying that the One X's exterior feels cheaper than the One S', but HTC claim it is so that they could keep the One X to a nice low weight.
The One S has a qHD display within a 4.3” screen which I'm sure will look beautiful and the resolution will be rather hard to compare between the One S and the One X unless they're placed side-by-side. Now some may say this phone is just the HTC Sensation XE, which it is identical to in hardware. But where the similarity stops is the new HTC Sense 4.0 and Android 4.0 that the One S offers. Now HTC Sense is essentially the reason people buy HTCs and every time HTC bring a new version, it gets sexier and sexier and HTC 4.0 looks just brilliant. What I noticed was that it looks a little more simple but in a way that “less is more” not in a way that it looks as if they've forgotten to add in extra cosmetic details. Obviously Ice Cream Sandwich is a massive step-up from Gingerbread as seen on the XE as it offers more functions, better animations and transitions and in general it just feels smoother and more natural.
Let's now talk about the One V which is the low-end device of the three and even compared to today's latest smart phones, it's fairly low end. It is rocking a single core 1Ghz processor and a 3.7” screen with a resolution of 800x480 which is the same resolution I've got on my HTC Desire which is a device that is over two years old now. However, what I noticed about the design of this handset was that it was made of aluminium too (so it has the premium look and feel) and in addition, it looks like the brilliant selling HTC Legend with the chin at the bottom. The selling point of this handset is the brilliant new look of HTC Sense 4.0 with Ice Cream Sandwich in HIGHLY affordable price range. To be fair, the One V still packs in the nice little camera features such as f2.0 aperture with a 28mm lens which is very interesting. In addition, it has the nice camera software too such as burst mode, pictures whilst recording and all those funky features HTC have been promoting throughout their whole advertising. So all-in-all the One V isn't really a phone to be scoffed at unless you're a gigahertz whore and care about all that kind of stuff.

These two phones that have been released by HTC are really showing that HTC doesn't forget about anyone. At the end of last year, they were releasing high-end phones to The States and so the people who couldn't afford these phones or had no desire to purchase these powerhouses of phones! Both these phones would be beautiful handsets to own due to their exquisite build quality and beautiful software, however you obviously need to know what you'll be doing on the phones, if you aren't a massive user of apps or media then the One V would be your best option, yet if you find the One X's screen a bit too big and the extra power doesn't matter to you then definitely have a look at the One S! I hope this article has helped you clear up which phone you'd be better purchasing.
