Short first impressions of the HTC One X
Okay, it's now been two days since I received the phone and so I think that is a sufficient enough amount of time to give you all an honest first impressions. Now this is only going to be a very short article as I'm writing this all on the Blogger app and so it would take days to write a full article.
Let's begin with what everybody has been raving about: the display. The HTC One X features a 3.7" Super LCD2 HD display with a resolution of 1280x720 which suggests this phone's screen is something to be excited for. And let me tell you, it really is something special! The screen is so bright, it's so dense, the colours pop, the text and images are so clear; everything about the display just adds so much to the whole phone experience in general. When I first turned on the phone, I wasn't initially too wowed but it's when you put the brightness right up and start looking at images and text that it really begins to impress. The text is so clear and the colours are so realistic, me and my friend have both truly been impressed when looking at the default images and looking at web pages and anything that really involves lots of colours or detailed text.
The next big feature of the phone is obviously the power under the hood, the One X has a 1.5 GHz Quad-core Nvidia Tegra 3 processor which sounds impressive and is definitely noticeable within the phone. Let me begin by saying: yes this phone isn't flawless when it comes to lag or load times but it definitely breezes through. You begin to notice it when you've been downloading apps and flying through apps and you look back and realise: not once did you have to wait for an app to open or for the phone to go back to the home screen. It's subtle little things that make the HD display run all that bit smoother that is what impresses me about the processor. Obviously the browser is the quickest I've ever seen and opened the apple website in 2 seconds on the new Chrome beta browser which is truly incredible. As I said earlier, there's a little lag every now and then when sliding between panels, but I believe that to be more of a HTC Sense thing than a slacking processor thing.
The final thing I wanted to talk about was the general UI. I've obviously only had the phone for a couple of days and so haven't had the chance to fully experience and learn Ice Cream Sandwich with HTC Sense 4.0 on top, but I can still tell you my initial impressions on the software. Well I have loved HTC Sense ever since it was brought onto the Android platform, it made what I thought was an ugly OS with nice features into a beautiful OS with nice features. Ice Cream Sandwich feels miles beyond Froyo or Gingerbread, everything feels so much more polished! Everything scrolls so much smoother (only if it's optimised obviously) all the new animations are nice, apps loads smoother, I've not yet experienced any crashes and just in general it feels so much more solid than any previous Android mobile phone OS. As I mentioned before HTC Sense makes Android beautiful and the widgets and icons on HTC really do bring Android to life, on top of that there are endless customisation options such as skins, lock screens, live wallpapers and much more to change. I am absolutely loving the OS so far, but we'll see if I find any niggles with it in the next couple of weeks or so as I review the phone.
The other features I've been impressed with are obviously the camera which is incredibly quick and takes beautiful shots. I could really find myself not needing another camera. The build quality of the phone is supreme, the back is a little slippery but I've not had any problems with it sliding out of my hand. The buttons all click nicely and just everything about the externals of the phone suggest hard work went into designing and building it. The Beats Audio is a bit of a let down and in my opinion just seems to make the music louder, but there's a tiny noticeable different in the clarity and amount of bass, but not enough to make you buy the phone solely for the Beats Audio. However, overall the phone so far is simply perfect, but as I said I'll find out any problems or annoying things this phone has over the next week and a half or so and I should be bringing you the full review in about a week in a half. So expect to have a nice long read!
